BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple health screening measure calculated from height and weight. Categories: underweight (<18.5), normal (18.5-24.9), overweight (25-29.9), obese (30+). While BMI has limitations (doesn't account for muscle vs fat), it's useful for health risk assessment. In India, obesity rates are increasing: maintaining healthy BMI reduces risk of diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension—major health challenges in Indian population. BMI is quick screening tool: more extreme values strongly correlate with health risks. Though imperfect (athletes may have high BMI but low body fat), it's statistically powerful predictor of health problems across populations. Insurance companies use BMI to assess risk; unhealthy BMI increases premiums significantly.
